School-Based Health Centers and School Nurses
West Virginia counties employ at least one full-time school nurse per school for children in grades kindergarten through seven.  Moreover, there are many school-based health centers in the state offering a variety of medical, mental health, dietetic and health education services.  Few offer dental services.  Where offered, services are provided by school nurses and limited to classroom education, nursing assessments, fluoride rinse/tablets, and referrals.
